Level 2 Certificate in Preparing to Work in Adult Social Care
Praxis recently finished the delivery of an Introduction to Health and Social Care course aimed at refugees living in London with a background in healthcare
or those who had developed a vocational interest in the sector. The evaluation showed the course had had a very positive impact on students, some of
whom have progressed onto further courses at Imperial College of Healthcare NHS Trust, employment and voluntary work in care organisations.
Following the evaluation report, we felt we needed to take this course one step further and make it an accredited qualification in Health and Social Care.
1. The New Course
Praxis is running a 15 weeks accredited Level 2 Certificate in Preparing to Work in Adult Social Care.
The course is aimed at refugees wanting to develop a career in this field with or without previous experience in the sector.
This qualification will provide students with an understanding of the following core areas relating to working in adult social care:

Principles of communication

Diversity, equality and inclusion

Principles of safeguarding and protection in health and social care

Introduction to duty of care
-
Person centred approaches
-
Health and safety
-
How to handle information in social care settings
-
Personal development
-
Role of the social care worker
We will provide advice to help participants identify potential career routes while developing the skills needed for employment in the care sector.
The Level 2 Certificate in Preparing to Work in Adult Social Care is a vocationally-related,credit–based qualification that provides valuable
opportunities for participants to gain underpinning knowledge and understanding of the sector and their role within it.
To achieve this qualification, participants must achieve a total of 20 credits from 9 mandatory units.
This qualification has been accredited onto the Qualifications and Credit Framework (QCF), is endorsed by Skills for Care and Development,
the sector body for health and social care.
2. Requirements:
Immigration status: The course is open to refugees, people with Indefinite Leave to Remain (ILR), Humanitarian Protection (HP), Discretionary Leave (DL),
naturalised refugees or spouses of refugees. Evidence of status will be requested.
English language: English at Level 1 or above will be required to enrol on this course. This will be tested during the recruitment process.
Level of qualifications: No prior qualifications are needed to enrol on this course, but we will assess your ability to begin studying at this level.
Fees: A refundable £40 enrolment fee will be charged. Students who successfully complete the course will be reimbursed the £40 deposit plus an extra £5.
Time commitment: Successful candidates will be required to attend lessons 3 days a week over a period of 15 weeks.
. The course will be run on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays from 10:00am to 3:00pm at Praxis’s head office in Bethnal Green.
The course is due to start on the 5th May 2011.
3. Student expenses
Reasonable travel expenses will be paid by Praxis to students once accepted on the course.
4. Course assessment
The course is accredited by the Oxford Cambridge and RSA Examinations (OCR).
Once on the course, your work will be assessed on an ongoing basis using a range of methods:
- Assignments
- Course work
- Presentations
- Group work
Students will be expected to manage their own workload effectively and meet submission deadlines as specified.

Deadline for submission of applications is 11th April 2011 at 5pm.
Shortlisted applicants will be invited to attend an interview where details about the course and their personal goals will be discussed.
During the interview process, candidates will be required to complete an English language test.
Your application will be considered on an individual basis.
