Praxis Community Projects

Street Legal

Praxis works with Refugee Action and St Mungo’s on Street Legal – an innovative partnership linking specialist immigration advisers with homeless outreach services across London.

Street Legal tackles rough sleeping through a combination of immigration advice, temporary housing, community engagement, and training for the homelessness and migration sectors. By working with people to resolve their immigration situation, Street Legal breaks the cycle of rough sleeping and provides sustainable routes out of destitution. Our specialist immigration advisers provide people with expert immigration advice, obtain necessary documentation and identify accommodation options. During this process people are helped to access temporary accommodation, support services and healthcare. They also receive food, clothing, toiletries and a cash allowance.

Street Legal is also improving cross-sector practice through training to share and develop good practice, enabling frontline staff to better support destitute migrants. The project’s community engagement strand is empowering migrant communities and building their capacity to prevent, and survive, destitution. Street Legal is building the capacity of grassroots community organisations and promoting improved access to services – particularly immigration advice and survival resources – through group work, training and awareness-raising.
