Head of Fundraising and Communications

Title: Head of Fundraising and Communications
Salary: £37 - £40k, dependent on experience
Location: London, Bethnal Green (flexible hours and some home working possible)
Reports to: Chief Executive

Praxis is a vibrant human rights charity rooted in East London, providing pan-London services and contributing to national and European debate, policy and practice.  We have 35 years’ experience of working with migrant communities. Every year we support 2,000 people; providing expert legal advice, housing projects for destitute families and peer support. We build community, challenge exclusion and discrimination, influence policy, improve services and inspire solidarity with migrants. We played a leading role in exposing the Windrush scandal and have ambitions to increase our advocacy and campaigning to achieve better outcomes for more people.

This is an exciting time in our development and we're looking for an experienced, ambitious Head of Fundraising and Communications to work with the Chief Executive as part of the senior team to develop and implement a 3-5 year income strategy.

This is a pivotal role in the development of Praxis Community Projects. As Head of Fundraising and Communications you will build on the successful work to date and lead the development and implementation of Praxis’ fundraising activities to secure funding for project work and the charity’s core costs with a particular focus on grants, trusts and individual donors. You will also support staff in making institutional bids. You will have a proven track record in securing large multi-year awards, as well as experience of developing and expanding a trust fund portfolio and individual giving.

With a strong background in Trust fundraising, you will have a proven ability and passion for relationship management and producing successful and well written proposals.  You will also have experience and enthusiasm to lead and implement strategies to build our individual giving and support for individual donors. In particular you will lead all fundraising related communications and ensure a positive donor journey.

Income targets: the post holder will have a critical role in developing ambitious and achievable targets to match our vision for growth. In 2018/19 our income was £1.9million; 50% of this is from trusts and foundations. Our target is to increase the number of trusts that support us and gain more unrestricted as well as project income. Individual giving is a new area for us and our donations mainly come through our media profile. In 2018/19 we received some £90k in mainly one-off donations, 5% of our income. Our regular giving base is small at this stage. We anticipate that we should maintain and grow this income, however the target for this year is modest, until we have increased our fundraising resources as proposed. In terms of our 2020/21 income we have secured circa £1.3m.

Closing date: 12 noon on 22 November, we reserve the right to close early if we find the right candidate or to extend
