I'm Karen

I’m Karen and this is my story. 2018 was the year of my re-birth. After Praxis helped me obtain proof of my status, I am now able to make plans, I can go back to work and I can help other people.

When two years ago I was suddenly told that I had lost my job because of issues with my immigration status I felt like I was facing a wall, I had no hope in front of me, I couldn’t do anything other than thinking about my problems and I shut everybody else out. It was one of the worst things that ever happened to me. Thanks to Praxis this is now part of my past.

Praxis helped me to obtain my biometric card at the end of 2017, and after my problems were over I decided to join Praxis’ Service User Forum to give back and help those who are now facing similar challenges. Being part of Praxis has given me a new outlook on life, now I get to know more people and my community better. This is having a positive impact on my son too, he is more outgoing and he is not afraid to approach homeless people and people who need help, he got this from coming to Praxis with me.

As winter comes, thousands of people are struggling

to keep warm, have something to eat for themselves and their families, be safe. More and more people come to Praxis needing support: with your help more migrants at risk will be able to escape destitution this winter.
