Ensuring a Safety Net for All

Covid-19 has shone a spotlight on the injustices created by an immigration system that leaves thousands of people unable to find a route to safety. The injustice of the iniquitous No Recourse to Public Funds condition – preventing more than one million people in the UK from accessing support when they need it the most - has been exposed widely to all who care to see.

In 2021 Praxis is launching a new five year strategy outlining our commitment to act as a catalyst for national, systemic change to create the greatest impact for marginalised migrants facing crisis across the UK. This includes a campaign against the No Recourse to Public Funds condition.

On 19 May we hosted a discussion with guests Kate Osamor MP and Estelle and Esther, experts by experience from Praxis’ No Recourse to Public Funds campaign group. They discussed what drove them to speak out against the No Recourse to Public Funds condition, the pressing needs they see in the current context, and the opportunities for change and to build on the momentum for the abolition of the no recourse to public funds rule.

How can you explain to your child that they can’t have food because of No Recourse to Public Funds? I am a mother of four... my children are the future of this country... [they] need to be fed and keep healthy.

Our campaigning work towards the abolition of No Recourse to Public Funds is possible thanks to the support of Trust for London.
