Before you start fundraising…

Please be careful and considerate when you are fundraising, and always comply with the law. You are responsible for ensuring you, and people who participate in your fundraising effort, comply with the law. Some specific considerations are set out below.

Handling cash
Make sure you keep any cash you receive safe, and that you are always with another person when transporting it.

Collections
If you want to hold a bucket collection in a public place, you will need to get permission and possibly a license. If your collection takes place in a private place, such as a cinema or a supermarket, you will need to seek permission from them.

Raffles and lotteries
Please make sure you’re up to date with the rules around raffles before organising one. If your raffle lasts longer than 24 hours, you will need a local lottery licence and printed tickets. If it will last 24 hours or less, in one venue and as part of another event, you are good to go.

Licences
For events involving live music, screening films or selling alcohol, you may need a licence.

Food Safety and Allergies
Make sure that any food you are providing or selling at your event has been prepared and served safely. It’s also vital to ensure any allergens, such as nuts, eggs and dairy are clearly marked.
