Let’s drown out the lies told about migrants & refugees

Right now a small unrepresentative minority in politics and the media seek to divide us from our neighbours. They blame migrants and refugees to score cheap political points and spread lies and misinformation about what life is really like for people who’ve migrated to the UK.

We’ve collated some resources for you to share with your local community. Together, we can drown out the lies told about migrants and refugees.

Where to share this information:

We trust and listen to the information shared by a friend or loved one a lot more than from someone we don’t know. That’s why it’s important we speak up about migrant rights with those around us and in our local communities. You could share this information in your local Facebook group, in a WhatsApp message, or in person with your neighbours.

Top tips for tricky conversations:

We want to encourage empathy, understanding, and active listening in these conversations and messages. Research has found fact-checking to be ineffective in shifting someone’s beliefs and can actually solidify their point of view. Instead of expecting you’re going to create a migrant rights activist through one message, go in with the aim of opening someone to new ways of thinking.
