100 organisations sign Praxis’ open letter to Home Secretary

Praxis has coordinated an open letter to Home Secretary Yvette Cooper signed by over 100 refugee, migrant, and racial equality organisations urgently calling for a meeting.

On 12th May, Prime Minister Keir Starmer announced massive proposed changes to the immigration system in the Immigration White Paper, 'Restoring Control over the Immigration System'. These will have a profound impact on the people we serve (read our full statement here). That’s why we’ve brought together the migrant and racial justice sectors to call on this Government to listen to the voices of the people who will be affected and the organisations supporting them.

Since the General Election we have formally requested to meet with the Home Secretary, as we know many other migrant and refugee charities have, but so far we have been unsuccessful in meeting with her. As we explain in our letter, our insights and evidence as a sector drawn from direct experience and could meaningfully inform policy in a way that supports both effective governance and the dignity and safety of all communities.

We once again urge the Home Secretary to meet with us and with migrants affected by this Government’s policy choices.
