Stand Up for Migrant Rights – Mass Lobby in Parliament
11th March 2026, Westminster Hall, Houses of Parliament
On Wednesday 11th March, people from all over the country, representing dozens of community groups and organisations, will travel to Westminster to meet their MPs to share their deep concerns about the Government's plans to introduce an "earned settlement" immigration system. We are aiming to gather 100 people in Parliament and meet 50 MPs. This action is convened by the NRPF Partnership (Praxis, Migration Exchange and Citizens UK), in collaboration with actors across multiple sectors.
In November, the Government set out plans for an “earned settlement” model, with troubling implications for migrant communities. The changes proposed will:
Push thousands of children into poverty via the expansion of NRPF;
Apply retrospectively, meaning the Government are moving the goalposts for migrants and causing uncertainty for thousands;
Penalise low-skilled workers and care workers.
The proposals will affect 1.35 million people (including 300,000 children). Learn more about them here. The Home Office ran a public consultation on their proposals, but it was brief and extremely limited in scope. So, we need to make sure our concerns are properly heard and MPs know the full extent of the impact these plans will have on communities.
You can read more about the changes in our briefing here.
This page is to help you understand what a mass lobby is, what to expect on the day, and how to prepare.
What is a mass lobby?
A mass lobby is when a large number of people contact their MPs or members of the House of Lords and arrange to meet them in the Houses of Parliament on the same day.
It’s an effective and important way to show parliamentarians that their constituents (or in the case of the House of Lords, UK citizens) are passionate about a certain issue, and encourage them to take action.
Political context for this mass lobby
Many backbench Labour MPs are uneasy about the plans. 43 spoke out against the plans in a recent debate. This is significant, but more is needed to force the Government to reconsider.
Plan for the day:
From 10.30am: Meet other campaigners in Westminster location close to Parliament (details to be confirmed closer to the time).
From 11.30am: Enter Parliament at the Cromwell Green entrance. Leave 30 mins to pass through security.
12.15pm: Meet in Westminster Hall.
From 12.30pm onward: Meet OR green card your MP (see below).
How to set up a meeting with your MP:
Option 1: Use our quick and easy form to set up a meeting with your MP for on the day of the mass lobby.
Option 2: DON'T WORRY if you don’t have an appointment with your MP - you can and should still come on the day and ‘green card’ your MP (see below). The more of us that show up to talk about this issue, the more they will see that people disagree with their proposals and that they need to change.
‘Green carding’ is a process of making a same day request for your MP to meet with you. You can do this at Westminster by speaking to Parliamentary staff and filling out a simple form. If your MP or a member of their team are free, they should come down to meet you.
What is our message to MPs?
We want MPs to pressure the Government to drop their "Earned Settlement" plans.
We will provide a flyer that you can hand to MPs with actions they can take.

Practical and accessibility information about the Houses of Parliament
How to get to the Houses of Parliament:
For information about travel to Westminster, please see here.
What you can bring:
The Houses of Parliament have tight security restrictions on what can come into the building. This includes going through airport-style security with similar restrictions in place, however water and other drinks are allowed.
There is a ban on political or offensive slogans on clothing, which includes badges, posters, and banners. Breaking these rules will mean being refused entry, and potentially having items taken from you. We assume that any migrant rights slogans or flags could be interpreted as political in the context of this mass lobby. For full details, see here.
Please note, no chanting is allowed, and people chanting will be at risk of removal and missing their meetings with MPs.
Accessibility:
The mass lobby will involve coming in through the Cromwell Green entrance and spending time in Westminster Hall, all of which is accessible to people who use wheelchairs and other mobility aids. You can find out more about accessibility at the Houses of Parliament here.
Facilities:
We will be in Westminster Hall for the mass lobby, which has a cafe where you can buy food and drink. You are also allowed to bring a drink with you through security.
While you wait for your MP
Review the materials we’ve provided. Think about the ways the settlement changes would impact people’s lives. If you or people you care about will be directly impacted by these changes, try to focus on these points, as these are the stories that MPs will be most influenced by.
Here are a few other tips for meeting your MP:
Thank them for meeting with you.
Find out how much time they have to meet. Some MPs will be able to speak for longer than others, depending on their schedule and the number of constituents they have to speak to.
Make sure they have heard the key messages and give them the flyer we will provide with actions they can take.
Departing
As soon as you have either met your MP or been told your MP is not available to meet you, please check out and leave the Houses of Parliament. We are expecting large numbers of people at the venue, and we want as many people as possible to have the opportunity to have their voice heard. By leaving promptly after you have finished, this means you’re helping more people to check in and have their say.
When you leave, please come to the check out desk and then follow the signs to the Cromwell Green exit.
Social media
We would love to see as many posts and pictures of the mass lobby as possible, to make sure all of our voices are heard beyond the walls of the Houses of Parliament. If you met with your MP please share how your meeting went. If you weren’t able to meet with them we want you to share that too, and let them know what you wanted to say.
