Scrap the Barriers
Everyone deserves a secure future, no matter where we’re from.
Right now, people who’ve moved here and who are doing their bit – working in the NHS, looking out for their community, and caring for their families – are stuck, unable to move forward with their lives. This is because of a senseless government rule that means people have to wait ten years to get settlement here. And if this Government has their way, soon millions more people will be put in this decade-long limbo.
This isn’t an accident. This is a political choice. A choice that hits women, Black and Brown communities, and disabled people the hardest. A choice that forces people to spend thousands on visa fees driving them into poverty. A choice that means people are constantly looking over their shoulders, fearing they’ll hear the worst from the Home Office, and unable to put down roots.
We will not stand by as this Government punishes people for building their lives here in a desperate attempt to distract us from their failures. It hurts us all – our communities, our economy, our culture and our country as a whole.
Take action
For years, we’ve campaigned for shorter, more affordable routes to settlement. Instead of listening to our concerns, this Government is choosing to create even more hurdles for people to jump through. They want to double to wait time for settlement from 5 years to 10 years and introduce tougher eligibility requirements. This is a thinly veiled attempt to create a two-tiered system that punishes migrants who are already integral parts of our communities.
Together, we can push back. We’re building a coalition of workers, organisations and unions to campaign together. Join us.
